Shi Shi Beach Weekend - Day 1

16th July 2004

Right at the North West tip of Washington - Shi Shi beach is part of the Olympic National Park - and far from any WiFi access or power points.

Headed into Seattle, then on the Bainbridge ferry to Bainbridge Island, then on to the Olympic Peninsula.

Eventually after a long drive - we had gone as far as we could by car.

We parked in the Makah Indian Reservation - and started out on the promised 2 mile (felt like 4 mile) hike to the  beach.

This is us at the start of the hike - looking fresh and ready for the challenge.

Kris and Angela, our friends, planned the trip,
 and kept us right throughout.

We arrived at dusk - just in time to set up camp before nightfall.

(I must say I felt as wrecked as I look)

We lit our campfire - and cooked marshmallows over the fire,
while drinking most of our supply of wine.

(these are Kris's feet)

We stored our food in the bear canisters (100ft from the tents), and went to bed, desperately praying that the bears would not come after us.
