SAT 28TH JAN

I wanted to visit Wallace Falls State Park - it's named after my brother-in-law, so we had to schedule a visit!  Three falls make a drop of 800ft in half a mile.  The largest single drop is 265ft, Snoqualmie Falls is just higher.  Niagara Falls is a mere 176ft, but it is amazing because of the width of the falls.

It's about an hour away, just past Gold Bar, and close to Steven's Pass Ski area.

We dressed warmly for the occasion as we weren't sure how high up and how cold it would be.

I love that hat!

We crossed small rivers flowing into the main Skykomish River

But we were soon taking off the layers as the trail was very steep (why the signs kept saying moderate, I just don't know - it must've been a misprint).
There you go, Graeme, your own river.
They warned us not to stray off the path.  "Falling can be deadly" - hmmmm - no joking?
We finally arrived at the bottom of the falls.
And after more trekking, we arrived, exhausted at the top.

But the view was breathtaking!  We were definitely glad we made the effort to get there!

(Though we need to throw away that guide book which didn't tell us quite the trek we had in store for us.)

It's a pity we don't have sound so you can hear the roar of the water.
It was much quicker on the way back as it was mostly down hill this time.
We stopped in at Prospector's Steak and Ale House in Gold Bar for a late lunch/early tea (the walk had taken a little longer than I had planned).

A relaxing finish to a strenuous day.
